WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT
Whether or not you consider yourself a Christian, a follower of another tradition, generally nonreligious, or someone who is looking for answers to life's difficult questions, we welcome you to come experience our community and explore the claims of Christianity as we gather together to worship God. Perhaps you have never been to church—or not in a long time—and fear that you won't know what to do, how to act, or what to say. Please be assured, Seven Hills Church is dedicated to providing a welcoming environment that makes it easy for you to participate with us however you are comfortable when you visit.
SERVICES
All of our weekly public services begin @ 10:30 am and conclude at approximately 11:45 am. We have returned to weekly in-person worship at our 52 Russell St. location, and we will continue to livestream our full worship services on our YouTube channel. This week’s livestream link can also be found on our homepage.
ARRIVING
Traditionally, when you arrive, one of our greeters at the front door is available to help orient you and answer any questions you might have. We use a liturgy guide for every service, which is an order of worship that includes songs, congregational call and response text, scripture readings and other information, to help guide us through the service together. Currently our liturgy guide is available online only, accessible on your smartphone or printable at home before your visit—see our homepage for the link to this week’s liturgy guide. If you have any questions about the elements of the liturgy, please don't hesitate to ask a greeter or email us.
WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear whatever you are comfortable wearing. We have a few folks who like to wear their “Sunday best”, and we have others who would never think of coming to church in anything but jeans and a t-shirt.
FAMILIES
Our church is passionate about serving families and enabling them to thrive in the city. Seven Hills Kids hopes to equip and partner with families as you seek to invest in the spiritual wholeness of your children. We value the role of children and youth as a central part of our community and desire to create an environment where they are known, loved, and respected.
Children of all ages are warmly welcomed to participate in the sanctuary for our entire service--we like a little noise! We also offer a safe place for kids to learn, play and grow together during the service. Our intention is to draw children into an engaging, enjoyable, and provocative encounter with the gospel using language that is familiar to them.
0-2 year olds: Just downstairs from the sanctuary, we have a large, bright, clean nursery space staffed by CORI-checked professional caregivers as well as CORI-checked volunteers from the congregation. The nursery is open throughout the entire service. Infants and toddlers are free to play, wiggle, crawl, cuddle, sing, snack, and read with caring and experienced staff and attendants. The nursery is also open to families and nursing moms. Normally during Children's church, these children join in for songs, storytime, and activities. You will be contacted via text message during worship if needed for diaper changes, toileting or if your child needs your help.
3-5 year olds: Preschoolers ages 3 through 5 begin church in the sanctuary with their families and are dismissed midway through the service to the PreK class downstairs in a dedicated section of the nursery, where they will experience a lesson through stories, songs, games, pretend play, sensory play, questions, and crafts with caring teachers and classroom assistants from the congregation.
Grades K - 2: Lower Elementary children (kindergarten through 2nd grade) begin church in the sanctuary with their families and are dismissed midway through the service to walk outside with their teachers and class to the nearby VFW building at 351 Summer St. for class. Most Sundays, Seven Hills has use of a large rented event room at the VFW location where our growing elementary classes have more space to learn and play together. Guided and supervised by trained teachers and assistants, they will discover the Gospel through hands-on activities, games, crafts, role play, Bible stories, and discussion. At the conclusion of the service (often around 11:55am), classes will walk back, accompanied by adult teachers and assistants, to the main sanctuary to rejoin their families.
Grades 3 - 5: Upper Elementary children (3rd through 5th grade) begin church in the sanctuary with their families and are dismissed midway through the service to walk outside with their teachers and class to the nearby VFW building at 351 Summer St. They will learn to ask good questions about the Bible, the world, who God is, and the people He created them to be. At the conclusion of the service (often around 11:55am), classes will walk back, accompanied by adult teachers and assistants, to the main sanctuary to rejoin their families.
Grades 6 - 12: Youth and teens in middle school and high school are invited to join the main worship service. Those who attend Seven Hills regularly are also invited as they are able and willing, to volunteer during the service, assisting adults in the nursery or children’s classes, with the AV team or other tasks that interest them. Twice a month right after the worship service, youth are invited to an organized hang out in Davis Square for pizza, fun, guided Bible study, and prayer with our two youth leaders. Their time together includes a bible devotion, conversation, games, laughs, as well as space for tricky questions about their world, who God is, and the people He created them to be. Some of our youth also (or instead) meet in a supervised setting with a designated or chosen mentor from our church community to discuss the Gospel and what it means for them.
Parents of nursing children, there is a designated and semi-private area in the balcony for anyone during the service. You are welcome to use this at your convenience, as well as the nursery space downstairs. We apologize that since we are in a shared building, we are unable to completely clear this space for you.
Health + Safety: Please know that we take the personal health and safety of all children, youth, and adult childcare attendants very seriously at Seven Hills. All of our nursery staff and childcare volunteers have been CORI background-checked and trained on our policies to help ensure a safe, supervised and accountable environment for all. Please contact our Children’s Ministry Director for more information or for questions about our childcare policies.
For more information, check out our Infants and Toddlers page.
AFTER THE SERVICE
After the service many of us stick around in the foyer or outside to grab a snack, catch up and make new friends. You are warmly invited to stay and join us. We would love the chance to meet and get to know you.
ALL ARE WELCOME
Whether you are one of the many people in our culture and congregation processing skepticism and doubt about Christianity or a seasoned believer trying to grow and better understand your faith, we welcome your questions. If it is true, as we believe, that the God of the Bible is the all-powerful creator and sustainer of all things, then we should not be afraid to ask or answer any question. Therefore, we are dedicated to creating a safe environment providing honest answers to any and all honest questions concerning faith, life, and God. If you have any questions about our community, services, or about what it means to be a Christian, we welcome you to visit or contact us.
